The chairman of the PDP National Campaign Council in Edo State, Governor Nyesom Wike declared that Edo State and the South-South belongs to PDP.
During his speech at the campaign ground, he urged everyone present to not listen to Adams Oshiomole who is going back to his vomit.
He alleged that Adams Oshiomole once said that he cannot trust Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu because he was rusticated from school.
He also reiterated that nobody can rigg Edo elections because Edo belongs to PDP. He urged everyone present to support and vote for Governor Godwin Obaseki, because he has done very well.
Governor Nyesom Wike also led his party members on a courtesy visit to the Oba of Benin, Omo N’oba N’Edo Uku Akpolopolo, Oba Ewuare II.
He also revealed that the era of God-Fatherism in Edo State politics is over. He alleged that Adams Oshiomole is angry because he could not control Governor Godwin Obaseki.
Also speaking during the campaign flag off was Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, who also took a swipe at Adams Oshiomole for wanting to become a godfather in Edo State.
He alleged that Adams Oshiomole was also against godfatherism but was fighting to become one in Edo State.
Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State, and Prince Uche Secondus, the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Saturday during the inauguration of the Obaseki re-election campaign at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin-City, Edo State, said that godfatherism was dead in Edo State.
The heavyweight PDP chieftains were clearly referring to Adams Oshiomhole, the ex-National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Obaseki’s predecessor. Wike urged the people of Edo to vehemently reject godfatherism.
Governor Wike in his statement noted that the South-South belongs to the PDP, saying that nobody would be allowed to rig the September 19 Edo governorship election.
He noted that the people of South-South would not allow any other political party take charge of the region anymore.
“Former APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, is making a U-turn to lick his vomit by presenting a candidate he earlier rejected and castigated. Today, we are here to tell the people of Edo State that they should not be afraid because nobody can rig the forthcoming election.
“Today is the end of godfatherism in Edo State. I want to thank Governor Godwin Obaseki for refusing to dance to the tune of godfatherism.
“Four years ago, Adams Oshiomhole said he cannot trust the APC governorship candidate that he was rusticated from school.
“Today, Oshiomhole is coming back to present the same person to Edo people. He thinks Edo people are fools. I challenge Edo people not to vote any person presented to them by Oshiomhole.”
“As the Chairman of the PDP National Campaign Council, I will be in Edo State, we will make sure that everything needed is done to return our PDP.
“Governor Obaseki has done well in the last four years. You should not allow anybody to deceive you again.”
In his own statement, Governor Tambuwal accused Oshiomhole of wanting to practice godfatherism he once rejected.
“He (Oshiomhole) was all over the place in the past, condemning godfatherism, but now wants to become a godfather in Edo,” Tambuwal said.
Tambuwal urged Obaseki to put his trust in God and the people of Edo to defeat the enemies of the state as he did in Sokoto.
The Sokoto governor also urged Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to ensure free and fair election in Edo just like Attahiru Jega (which helped Oshiomhole govern for eight years).
In his own statement, Secondus who presented the PDP flag to Obaseki, described the Edo governor as a gentleman and performer.
The PDP chairman noted that godfatherism would not be allowed in Edo. He also appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to ensure free and fair was conducted in Edo.
Also present at the inauguration were; Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta, and Deputy Governor Agboola Ajayi of Ondo.
