Faisal Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi, the son of former Kaduna State Governor Senator Ahmed Makarfi, tragically lost his life in a car accident while traveling along the Kaduna-Zaria highway on Saturday evening, October 12, 2024.
A family source, who requested anonymity due to not being authorized to discuss the incident, confirmed Faisal’s death. According to the source, he was involved in a serious accident and was transported to an undisclosed hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The source relayed to Daily Trust that Senator Makarfi was present at the hospital, and arrangements are being made to return Faisal’s body home for burial.
Attempts to reach the former governor for comments on the tragedy were unsuccessful.
Senator Makarfi served as governor of Kaduna State for two terms from 1999 to 2007, later representing the Kaduna North Senatorial District after being elected in April 2007. He also held the position of National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the party under which he served as both governor and senator.
Faisal was a trained civil engineer who attended Kaduna International School and later completed his secondary education at Adesoye College in Offa, Kwara State. He earned both his undergraduate and master’s degrees from the University of Greenwich in London, where he was also pursuing a PhD.
His death marks the third recent loss among prominent Nigerians this week, following the passing of Pauline Tallen, a former Minister of Women’s Affairs, who lost her only son on Sunday, and Fatima Kyari, the daughter of Mele Kolo Kyari, the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), who died on Friday.
