A Chinese construction company, China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC), has donated over 11 tons of food supplies to the Borno State government to assist those affected by the recent devastating flood. This flood, the worst in 30 years, submerged over 50 percent of Maiduguri, the state capital, resulting in multiple deaths, widespread property destruction, and the displacement of hundreds of thousands of residents.
During a brief ceremony in Maiduguri, attended by Governor Babagana Zulum and various officials, CMEC’s representative, Liu Shuai, handed over the relief materials. He stated that the donation was part of the company’s corporate social responsibility and a demonstration of its commitment to the well-being of local communities in Nigeria.
“As a long-standing player in the Nigerian market, CMEC closely monitors the welfare of local residents and is committed to fulfilling its social obligations,” Liu said. He added that the company had swiftly mobilized support for both its local staff and the flood victims, launching a special assistance plan to aid the state government.
Liu further mentioned that aside from the food donations, CMEC would continue to invest in post-disaster reconstruction efforts to help Borno State recover as quickly as possible.
Governor Zulum expressed his gratitude for CMEC’s support, emphasizing that his administration was committed to completing the reconstruction process on time. He also
