Presidency Responds to Critics: Tinubu Free to Travel Anywhere, Including France

The Presidency has clarified that President Bola Tinubu is currently on leave and has the freedom to travel wherever he wishes, addressing criticisms surrounding his recent trip to France after spending time in the United Kingdom.

Presidential aide Bayo Onanuga stated that Tinubu is on a two-week working vacation, which includes time for reflection on his administration’s economic reforms. Tinubu is expected to return to Nigeria once his leave concludes.

Criticism emerged on social media, with many Nigerians expressing discontent over the President’s foreign travels amid ongoing economic challenges in the country. In response, Onanuga reiterated that the President has the liberty to visit any destination during his private leave, explaining, “It is his personal time, and he is free to go anywhere he desires.”

Ibrahim Kabir Masari, the Special Assistant to the President on Political and Other Matters, also confirmed via his X account that after productive discussions at Tinubu’s UK residence, they departed for Paris for another important engagement. Despite the backlash, the Presidency insists that Tinubu is well within his rights to travel during his leave period.
