She continued by saying that precise data on drug users will enable the government to rectify foreigners who might have given false information about drug-related activities in Lagos State.
She declared her commitment to the state’s fight against drug misuse. She added that to collaborate with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and other stakeholders, she had formed a committee to address drug addiction issues.
Ifeyinwa Omowole, Head of Editorial Operations at the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), spoke at the event and suggested that young people use their time well. Omowole cautioned participants against luring them into substance usage and recommended they abstain from drug addiction.
There are three phases of drug consumption, according to Abubakar Liman, the state commander of the NDLEA in Lagos: experimentation, sporadic use, and regular use.
Liman, accompanied by NDLEA assistant commander Innocent Adinna, stated
that, among other things, peer pressure, dissatisfaction, broken households, curiosity, and a lack of parental support or guidance were the reasons for drug misuse.
In addition to having detrimental consequences on users, he claimed that the “effects are harmful to society and weaken the immune system.” The NDLEA has implemented preventive measures including intervention, sensitization, and enlightenment.
Abdulhakeem Abd’Rasaq, the discourse’s organizer, also stated that the discussion’s goal was to lessen the threat of drug usage in society.
