The residents of Lagos are happy that Sanwo-Olu, a 25% off food store, has reopened.
On Sundays, a 25% discount was offered on a limited selection of food goods at the pop-up markets.

Lagos State residents in the Ikoyi-Obalende neighbourhood celebrated the reopening of the governor’s initiative, the “Ounjè Eko” Discount Market, on Sunday.

The state government declared on Wednesday that the second phase of its “Ounje Eko” discount market will open on Sunday, as the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls.
The first phase of the market was successfully implemented by the government in all 57 of its Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) earlier in March.

On Sundays, a 25% discount was offered on a limited selection of food goods at the pop-up markets.

Upon visiting one of the market locations—the former Nursing School Ground on Awolowo Road in Ikoyi—a NAN correspondent observed locals waiting in line to buy reduced food items.

Additionally, there was an order as individuals made use of the food items’ discounted rates.

Janet Obi, a resident who praised the initiative, emphasized the substantial cost reductions as compared to standard market rates.

Obi applauded Sanwo-Olu and Mr. Gbolahan Yishawu, a state House of Assembly representative, for reviving the bargaining market.

“A crate of eggs, for example, that goes for N5,000 in the outside market is sold here for N3,600; even four kilograms of garri is supplied at a reduced price,” the woman stated.

Tunrayo Oredola, a different resident and customer, stated that the program was crucial for tackling food unease.

“There is a real hunger in the land, so this initiative is greatly appreciated,” Oredola stated.

Isaac Jared, a different customer, added that given the current high cost of living, the market’s reopening was a big relief.

Jared lobbied the state government to continue and grow the effort.

“This market alleviates suffering for people; it is also well-organized and doesn’t require connections to access the food.”

He said, “We also appreciate the N1,000 voucher that was given to our constituency.”

Olabisi Lois, the market leader at this location, stated in her remarks that the market’s goal was to give families access to reasonably priced, well-balanced meals.

There was no need for any disputes because Lois told the inhabitants that there was enough food for everyone.

“Given the current economic situation, even with a 20% increase in product prices, the discount still makes a significant difference,” she stated.
