Omokri accuses Obi of tribalism after commenting on a Canadian woman’s genocidal threat.
The Canadian-Nigerian woman of South-East heritage has publicly threatened to poison fellow Yoruba and Benin Nigerians.
Reno Omokri, a social media figure and critic, has accused former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi of tribal bias in his response to a threat made by a Canadian-Nigerian woman against fellow Nigerians.
During the week, Amaka Patience Sunnberger, a Canadian woman from Nigeria’s South-East, went viral on social media after being caught in an audio clip threatening to poison Nigerians from the Southwest region (Yorubas) and Edo State Benin because of their “hatred for the Igbos.”
Sunnberger said it’s about time the Igbos started going after their detractors, adding that “the Yorubas and Benin are of no use To society.”
The debate, which is reported to have occurred during a TikTok live, highlights the ongoing supremacy battles and brutal tribal war among Nigerian youngsters on social media.
Meanwhile, many prominent Nigerians, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, instantly condemned the woman’s actions and urged Canadian authorities to pursue her.
The Federal House of Representatives also petitioned the Canadian High Commissioner in Abuja, expressing grave worry about the gravity of Sunnberger’s words, pointing out that her speech not only endangers lives but also breaches numerous international, Canadian, and Ontario laws.
Obi later joined others condemning the genocidal threat, calling the comments “bigotry taken too far.”
He emphasized that such divisive remarks had no place in Nigerian culture and should be unanimously rejected. Omokri accused Obi of tribalism.
However, Omokri pointed out contradictions in Obi’s remark when compared to his prior responses to a similar threat against Igbo citizens in Lagos.
Omokri took to his X account on Friday, August 30, 2024, to critique the former Anambra State Governor’s choice of language about the two occurrences.
“Not only did it take you four days to criticize this woman, but you also showed your profound tribalism three weeks before, when you condemned the Igbo Must Go episode and stated the ethnic nationalities involved.
“However, when you condemned Amaka Sunnberger’s threat to poison Yoruba and Edo people, you made no mention of ethnicity. You were ambiguous and evasive. Why Peter?
