The COAS stated that the organisation’s assistance had made a substantial contribution to the Army’s efforts to manage the country’s economic issues.
Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), claims that the Nigerian Army has completed over 200 special intervention projects across the country’s six geopolitical zones.

According to Lagbaja, the projects are being carried out under the Chief of Army Staff’s Special Intervention Civil-Military Cooperation Projects.

He made the remarks on Friday when displaying some of the improvements completed at the Ekeoba-Oriendu Community in Abia’s Umuahia North Local Government Area.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the COAS launched four projects carried out by Maj. Gen. Obinna Ajunwa, Director-General of the Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Center, who is from the town.

Projects include a cottage hospital, a 500kva transformer, two 40,000-litre waterworks, and a multi-purpose hall.

The COAS stated that the organisation’s assistance had made a substantial contribution to the Army’s efforts to manage the country’s economic issues.

He stated that the goal was to assist communities of Army senior commanders who achieved the prestigious position of Major-General by dedication to duty and service to the nation.

According to him, the objective is to give back to Nigerians as important partners in progress.

He stated that the projects were always carefully conceptualized and executed in collaboration with the benefiting communities. According to Lagbaja, the initiatives were created to supplement the government’s efforts by providing “top-notch basic amenities and infrastructure for the people”.

“The Nigerian Army does not want to compete with any level of government, political, or socio-cultural organization.

“The idea of our projects is not to give any undue advantage to our senior officers, rather to complement the government and communities’ efforts at enhancing the quality of life of the people,” according to him.

He hailed Ajunwa as one of the Nigerian Army’s best, with years of immaculate and committed service earning him numerous local and international accolades.

Maj.-Gen. Cyril Ugbo, the Chief of Civil-Military Affairs, stated that the Army’s intervention has continued to have a good influence on numerous communities throughout the country.

“The projects are executed as part of the Nigerian Army’s non-kinetic drive towards addressing the multi-faceted security challenges bedevilling our beloved country,” Ugbo told the crowd.

Governor Alex Otti praised the Nigerian Army’s ongoing commitment to the country’s exterior and internal security, as well as for honouring Ajunwa.

Otti, represented by Deputy Governor Ikechukwu Emetu, stated that his administration values security as a pillar of the state’s overall development and success.

Also, Col. Austin Akobundu (rtd.), The senator for Abia Central Senatorial District praised COAS for the initiatives, which he termed as “symbolic” and beneficial to the community.
Akobundu clarified: “The facilities installed are very close to the people and will help to alleviate their sufferings and health challenges.”
