Each of the 32 surviving schools that took part in the debate received ₦200,000 and educational items from the legislator in an equal amount.

On Saturday, Representative Jeremiah Umaru (APC-Nasarawa) gave cash prizes totalling ₦10.6 million to the victors of a debate that was held for 35 secondary schools within his constituency.

A representative for the state’s Akwanga/Nasarawa-Eggon/Wamba Federal area, Umaru, spoke at the occasion and stated that the gesture was intended to encourage high-quality education within the area.

He said that the 35 electoral wards in his constituency were used to choose the schools.

During the exercise, Umaru expressed his admiration for the participants’ poise and confidence, noting that the pupils showed a high degree of intellectual ability.

 

In addition to promising to continue having an impact on his constituents, Umaru also pledged to make the debate an annual occasion, stating that it would promote student networking and expose them to industry standards for best practices.

He went on to say that the program’s objectives were to help the students develop strong networks and a stage on which to practice public speaking.

“The network they are creating now will enhance their academic endeavours and fortify their public speaking abilities in the future.

He added, “It will also make it easier for them to fulfil their goals and aspirations in life.”

According to the  News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Baptist Academy, Wamba, and Shepherd International were the runners-up, with Command Science Technical Secondary School, Rinze, Akwanga, emerging as the overall winner, College Akwanga placed first and second in the competition.

The winner received a check for ₦1 million and five laptops from the legislator, the first runner-up received ₦700,000 and three laptops, and the third runner-up received ₦500,000 and two laptops.

Additionally, he gave the top speaker in the competition ₦500,000 and a laptop, the second-best speaker ₦250,000 and a laptop, and the third-best speaker ₦150,000 and a laptop.

Each of the 32 surviving schools that took part in the debate received ₦200,000 and educational items from the legislator in an equal amount.
