NDLEA seizes ₦2.2 billion worth of codeine bottles at Lagos’ Tincan Seaport

According to Babafemi, following a cooperative assessment with other port stakeholders, the agents found the drugs within the containers.
Three hundred and ninety-five thousand bottles of the opioid have been found inside 1,596 cartons of codeine-based syrup, according to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) claims that the street value of the drugs that were found is more than ₦2.2 billion.
The seizure was declared on Sunday in Abuja by Femi Babafemi, the Director of Media and Advocacy for the NDLEA.
According to Babafemi, two containers that were headed for the Indian port of Mundra were intercepted by NDLEA agents on Friday at the Tincan seaport in Lagos.
He stated that following a cooperative examination with other port stakeholders, the agents found the drugs within the containers.
In the meanwhile, personnel from Special Operations Unit A While returning from Ghana to Lagos, five female cross-border drug traffickers were apprehended by the NDLEA at the Seme border.
According to Babafemi, the syndicate’s 42-year-old leader was being monitored by the NDLEA when she and other gang members were apprehended on August 21.
He stated, “A total of 14 packs of Loud, a potent strain of cannabis weighing a total of 6.97kg, were recovered from hidden parts of their bodies at the point of their arrest at the Seme border.”
Along the same line, agents in Edo state detained two women for selling illegal substances online.
According to Babafemi, a 26-year-old woman was apprehended in Kada Plaza, Benin, carrying large amounts of Canadian Loud.
He stated that a second 21-year-old was taken into custody in the Ugbowo neighbourhood of the city with 30 cups of cookies and 17 slices of cake that had been tainted with illegal drugs.
Babafemi added that a 50-year-old man was apprehended on August 20th after a raid at Oghada village in the Uhunmwonde Local Government Area of the state, resulting in the seizure of 288.8 kg of cannabis.
