During an intensive gunfight in Kaduna state, Nigerian Army troops killed nine terrorists and recovered a large amount of lethal automatic weapons and ammo.

The army claimed in a post on its official X Handle on Friday that the encounter occurred in the Kampani Doka and Rifigoro areas of the Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of the state.

According to the post, the military began offensive operations into the terrorists’ stronghold near Kampani Doka and encountered fierce opposition from the militants, who opened fire upon seeing the troops.

“In an hours-long shootout, the valiant warriors defeated the criminal elements with superior firepower, killing seven terrorists.

“The troops seized three AK-47 rifles, eight AK-47 magazines (four of which were fully loaded with 120 rounds of 7.62mm Special), a magazine carrier, and motorcycles.

“Other items include three mobile cell phones, two Baofeng communication radios, and three pairs of civil clothes,” the statement read.

The Nigerian army also announced offensives in Gayam hamlet of the same Local Government Area, where a notorious rebel leader was neutralised.

It was said that some of his accomplices fled with gunshot wounds, abandoning their weapons and equipment.
“Among the things found by the troops were a PKT machine gun with eight rounds of ammo, a Baofeng radio, several communication devices, one SMF magazine and fourteen mobile SIM cards.

“These successful operations, which resulted in the elimination of major terrorist figures and the confiscation of lethal weaponry, represent a critical milestone in the ongoing efforts to restore peace and stability to the region.
“We urge the public to continue supporting our security forces who work tirelessly to ensure the safety of all citizens,” the statement read.
